How Much Does it Cost to Replace a Roof on an RV

A Thorough Breakdown to Replacing an RV Rubber Roof

For the purpose of this article, we are going to look at all the costs associated with replacing the most common RV roof: EPDM or rubber roof.

We are going to base our estimate on a hypothetical 8 x 29ft RV rubber roof. It does have some minimal moisture damage requiring a couple of structural studs, panels/ plywood, or insulation to be replaced. Costing anywhere from $600 CND to $800 CND in materials and labor.

As well as having pre-existing roof water damage, all the fixtures will need to remove to replace the roof. These fixtures usually have extensive UV damage and will crumble when being removed and will have to be replaced; costing anywhere from $300 CND and up.

We will be pricing on the higher end of average to give a good idea of the costs associated with a camper roof replacement.

  • Disposal Fees

  • The old roof and water-damaged material have to go somewhere and typically that somewhere will have hefty fees. Plan to spend anywhere between $150-$300 CND in disposal costs alone.

  • Cost of Materials

  • Rubber roof or EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer)

EPDM costs anywhere between $7-$9 CND per sq/ft. We will need 8.5 x 29.5( 250.75 sq/ft) in EPDM to stretch it over the surface of the RV comfortably.

EPDM only comes in specific lengths (some specifically for camper roof repairs only), the dealership we are going with has the roll in stock and we can purchase by the sq/ft allowing for us to avoid any unnecessary seams in the middle of the RV roof.

    The rubber roof material going cost: 250.75 sq/ft x $9.00 per sq/ft for a total of:$2256.00

    Primer/ Bonding Compound

You then have the primer/ bonding compound that bonds the rubber roof to the actual plywood or panelled roof. For an 8 x 29 ft roof, you would be looking at 1 gal at $160.00

    CND.

    Resealing Materials

Wouldn't you know it, while you are paying to have your roof replaced, you also have to pay to have it resealed! Since your starting from scratch, best to start off on the right foot and use the best RV roof sealant available!
